Tree Fungus

Pollard willows are symbolic of the Dutch polder landscape. But many willows are being felled to make way for construction projects. Floris Wubben came across the felled willows in the landscape and discovered lots of fungi and other organisms living inside the tree. That inspired the parasitic structure of Tree Fungus. This room divider consists of two halves of a pollard willow truck tied together by polyurethane, a synthetic material that contrasts starkly with the wood. This sculptural object was made in collaboration with artist Bauke Fokkema.
